Heat take 4th at Oregon City End of the Trail Tournament

The Vancouver Heat went 4-1 this weekend at the Oregon City End of the Trail tournament and took home the 4th place trophy. Playing in one of the best tournaments on the west coast the Heat's only loss was a slim 3 point defeat to tournament runner up EC Legends. While disappointed in not taking home the championship trophy, the Heat proved that they are one of the elite teams in the Pacific Northwest. They also proved that the Clark County area class of 2012 possesses a great deal of excellent basketball talent. The Heat finished this season with a 54-12 record, played in nine tournament championships, took home 5 first place trophies, won the Beaverton Hoop Fall league and is the Pacific Northwest AAU regional champions. Great job Heat players on an outstanding season!

Heat win AAU Pacific NW Regional Championship

This weekend the Vancouver Heat won the Pacific Northwest AAU Championship. The Heat went to Seattle this weekend and went 5-0 against the competition to earn a birth in the AAU Girls National Championships to be held in July. Playing shorthanded, the Heat battled through pool play to defeat the Tukwila Reign, EBI Rage, Auburn-Riverside and EBI Swish to earn a spot in the championship game against Seattle area powerhouse Puget Sound Flight Blue. In a back and forth game the Heat made the plays down the stretch to pull out a 50-46 win. Congratulations Heat for being the Pacific Northwest AAU Regional Champions!

The Vancouver Heat beat South Bay, Coquille, the 503 Flyers and Bremerton to win this weekends Oregon Prep Tournament. The Heat dominated competition by an average margin of 24 points. Great job Heat on your 1st place finish!

The Vancouver Heat won the Hillsboro Oregon Prep tournament this weekend with an average win margin of 21 points. The Heat beat North Albany, Klamath Falls and South Bay to get to the championship game. In the final the Heat played solid defense to beat a very good Vancouver Select team. Congratulations to both Clark County teams for an excellent tournament showing!

Heat take 2nd at Auburn-Riverside Winter Classic

The Vancouver Heat took 2nd place at the 2008 Auburn-Riverside Winter Classic. On Saturday, the Heat handled two excellent programs in the Tukwila Reign and home team Riverside. On Sunday the Heat met up with two of the best teams in the Seattle area. In the first one the Heat played great team defense and beat Seattle Best 35-21. In the championship game, the Heat gave powerhouse Seattle area YEA Finest all they could handle until slipping late in the last minute 46-43. This tournament showed though that the Heat can play with anyone in the entire Northwest. Great job Heat on your 2nd place finish!

The Vancouver Heat kicked off the 2007-08 season by going undefeated and taking first place in the Beaverton Hoop Fall League. The Heat now prepare for tournament play which will begin on December 1st at the Clackamas Fall Classic. Congratulations Heat on your 12-0 start!

The Vancouver Heat finished the 2006-07 by going 3-2 at the tough End of the Trail Oregon City All-star tournament. After a disapointing first round lost the Heat bounced back with strong efforts in the next three games beating the Alaska Mavericks, Tukwila Reign and Seattle Blaze. Playing for a 6th place trophy the Heat lost to a good Bay Area Elite team from San Francisco. The Heat finished the year with a 54-24 overall record, four tournament championships, four 2nd place finishes, and three 3rd place finishes. Along the way the Heat went 15-9 against older opponents, and 11-6 in the Tournament of Champions Qualifier, Riverside Tournament of Champions, Yakima's Best in the West and the Oregon City End of the Trail- tournaments considered to be the best in the area. Congratulations Heat on a terrific 2006-07 season!

Heat take 1st Place at May Oregon Prep Tournament

The Vancouver Heat, playing against 8th grade competition, took 1st place at this weekends Oregon Prep Basketball Tournament. The Heat began play by avenging an earlier in the season loss to the CC Rams 8th grade squad by earning a hard fought 45-36 win. After that the Heat cruised to wins over the Wilson Trojans, Central Valley and Barlow Bruins. Great job Heat on earning another tournament championship!

Heat take 3rd place at Riverside Tournament of Champions Qualifier

The Vancouver Heat, having already received an invite to the Riverside Tournament of Champions in April, came to the TOC Qualifier this weekend and earned a 3rd place trophy. Playing against some of the best competition in the entire Northwest, the Heat were disappointed that their string of 6 straight tournament championships were broke, but took pride to come back and win the 3rd place game. On Saturday the Heat used stifling defense, good free throw shooting and smart play on offense to beat two strong Seattle area clubs. In game one they beat a highly regarded Triple Threat program 32-22. In the second game, they beat a strong Blaze team 38-20. Sunday started with a disappointing 35-26 loss to Seattle area powerhouse Emerald City Legends. After leading much of the game and tied late, the Heat could not overcome poor free throw shooting and some missed rebounding opportunities at the defensive end. The Heat bounced back strong in their last game by using strong defensive pressure to beat the Tukwila Reign. Great job Heat on showing a lot of heart this weekend!

The Vancouver Heat took 2nd place in their own tournament in Vancouver this weekend. After solid wins over Eastside Select, Medford and Keizer the Heat played in their 6th straight tournament championship where they lost to the Oregon Reign. The Heat now prepare for the Tournament of Champions Qualifier in Seattle on March 22-24.

The Vancouver Heat won this weekend's Seaside Presidents Day Tournament in Seaside, Oregon. While the Heat didn't play their best basketball, they did just enough in each game to get the job done. This weekend showed the balance and depth that the team has as every player contributed in the scoring column, and no player scored in double digits in any of the four games. The Heat started the tournament with a thrilling come from behind overtime win over Clackamas. Then, after beating Canby and Albany the Heat beat Tualatin in the championship game to close out the tournament. Congratulations Heat on your second consecutive tournament championship!

The Vancouver Heat won this weekends Oregon Prep Superbowl Tournament with a combination of clutch shooting, tenacious defense and outstanding team play. In the opening games the Heat defeated Scappoose and Longview to set up a semi-final showdown with the tough Black Hills Wolves. The Heat got a clutch basket with 13 seconds left to take a two point lead and held on for the win. In the finals the Heat beat a very good South Bay team 47-39 to take home the tournament championship. By winning the Heat upped their tournament record to 18-7. Great job Heat!

The Vancouver Heat finished 2nd this weekend at the Oregon City Winter Classic. Playing in a grueling double elimination style tournament the Heat made it all the way to the championship- their sixth game of the weekend. Along the way to the finals the Heat knocked off a tough, tournament tested Black Hills team twice, Southridge and Oregon City. In the finals a rested Team Concept program proved too be too much. Nonetheless, a 2nd place finish in one of the toughest tournament fields all season is very impressive. The Heat are now 14-7 in tournament play and have played in the championship of every tournament so far this season except one where they took third. Great job girls. Keep up the hard work!

Heat take 2nd place at Oregon Prep January Tournament

The Vancouver Heat playing against some of the best competition in the entire Northwest finished 2nd at this weeks Oregon Prep Tournament. Playing some of their best basketball to date the Heat swept past Portland Christian and Southridge in the qualifying rounds. The Heat played exceptional defense versus Southridge holding them to 9 points. In the semi-finals the Heat beat one of the best teams in the area, Team Concept, 41-30 to set up a finals matchup with the two time defending Oregon State Champion Oregon Reign. In a classic battle the Reign outlasted the Heat 44-43 in a game that went right down to the wire. Congratulations to the Reign and the Heat. Both teams played great basketball, but even more important both programs showed great class throughout the tournament. Keep up the good work!

The Vancouver Heat began tournament play in impressive fashion by taking first place at Battleground High School. The Heat displayed depth, unselfishness and tenacious defense in allowing only 39 point to be scored in three games. In the championship game the Heat beat a tough Tualatin team from the Rivers League 33-16 to win their 10th straight game. Great job Heat- keep it going!

The Vancouver Heat finished up an impressive fall league performance at the Beaverton Hoop by finishing in 3rd place in the nine team league. After starting out league play 0-4 the Heat won seven straight games to close the season. As one of only two seventh grade teams the Heat showed again that they can compete against older and bigger players. Combined with last seasons performance in the Oregon City Spring league the Heat has a combined record of 13-6 versus older competition. Congratulations Heat on a great fall league run!

The Vancouver Heat lost another heartbreaker to the Oregon City girls team in the Oregon City spring championship. After trailing by 11 point in the third quarter, the Heat rallied for a 1 point lead entering the 4th quarter. Midway through the 4th the Heat had a six point lead before fatigue set in. The Pioneers rallied down the stretch by hitting 4 free throws in the final 30 seconds for a 48-45 victory. Again, hats off to both teams for their effort and extremely high level of play.

The Heat beat all of the other 5 teams at least once, and proved that they can play competitively against older and bigger opponents. Great job Heat on an excellent spring season!

The Vancouver Heat Girl's baksetball team concluded tournament play by winning the Battleground championship this weekend. Playing the stiffest competition in the entire Northwest, the Heat started tournament play 0-5, but regrouped to play in 5 championship games in their next seven tournaments, amassing an 18-9 record over that span. The Heat will now prepare for the highly competitive Oregon City Spring League!

The Vancouver Heat lost by one point to Oregon City in a thrilling championship game that wrapped up the Seaside President's Day Basketball Tournament. After taking care of business in the preliminary rounds, the Heat matched Oregon City throughout an intensely fought battle. The Heat got a clutch basket with 18 seconds left to take a one point lead. Oregon City though hit a basket of their own with 8 seconds left and held on to win. Both teams played excellent basketball and showed a lot of class and heart. Great job Heat!

The Vancouver Heat took 2nd place at the Great 48 Beaverton Hoop Classic. The team won its opener against in-town rival Prairie Select 23-12 in a defensive battle. Praire led by 3 at the half, but the heat outscored the Falcons by 14 in the second half. In the semi-finals the heat battled from behind against Westview in a thrilling 39-38 win. The Heat trailed by 5-8 points throughout the game and still trailed by that margin with 4 minutes to go. The team never gave up and showed great heart in the comeback victory. In the finals the Heat were upset by the hometown Beaverton team losing 21-20 as a last second shot bounced off the rim. Great job Heat on bringing home another trophy!

The Vancouver Heat lost in the championship game of the SW Washington Basketball Tournament that took place on January 15th to earn the 2nd place trophy. The Heat won their opening round game against a tough Cowlitz team by a score of 24-15 by playing tough man to man defense. In the second game the Heat continued that same tenacious defense and earned a 38-15 win over Clatskanie. In the championship game the Heat were unable to overcome fatigue and foul trouble and dropped a 26-14 battle against a very highly regarded Black Hills squad. Congratulations Heat on your 2nd place finish!

Heat take 1st place at Oregon Prep Tournament
The Vancouver Heat went 4-0 this weekend (Dec. 17-18) at the Oregon Prep Tournament at Battleground High School to take home the 1st place trophy. The Heat won their four games by an average of 22 points. In game 1 the Heat beat the Westside Shock of Portland 47-15 by playing tough, aggressive defense limiting the Shock to two points in the second half. In game 2 the Heat beat the Eastside Bruins by a score of 43-15. Again, second half defense was the key as the Heat gave up only 6 second half points. In the semi-finals the unselfish play of the Heat led to a 42-22 win over Portland Christian. In the championship game the Heat battled injuries, fatigue and weather but stuck together to grab a hard earned 34-25 win over the Storm Select of Vancouver. Every player contributed to the win. Great job girls!

Spring League

Last year the Heat placed 3rd in the highly competitive Oregon City spring league. After finishing in 3rd place during the regular season, the Heat began their run at the tournament championship with a thrilling, come from behind win against a tough Clackamas team. Trailing 22-9 at the half the Heat turned up the defensive intensity in the second half enroute to a 38-33 win. The Heat returned the same day to play a rested Oregon City program. The Heat stayed competitive for 3 and 1/2 quarters as they trailed by only 4 points in the fourth quarter. Playing an extremely talented and well coached OC program turned out to be too much though as the pioneers pulled away down the stretch for a 36-19 win. Playing the next day the Heat beat another tough Clackamas team to secure 3rd place. The 52 points scored by the Heat in that game were the most points scored by a 5th grade girls team all season. Congrats Heat on a great run!
